No warping just a little checking

Hey, folks.

Nothing like a long break to make you question whether you’re motivated to keep woodworking or not.  A brief update: I’ve taken a new job which has the benefit of allowing me to afford new things and materials, but the drawback of not enough time to do anything after work is done.

I know I’m a big proponent of five minute tasks, and that hasn’t changed.  The challenge is setting up the shop with enough time to do a couple projects.  I haven’t stopped buying small pieces or project components, but I haven’t put anything together in forever.  I have built some flat pack furniture recently, which is part of the rekindling of the desire.

I also got to spend some time with family who offered my a tool I don’t already have (thanks, Cousin Greg!) And that’s got me jazzed and energized like nothing before.

That’s the key, for me.  The connection issue.  Knowing that you aren’t alone.  Having someone to share with. So if you have a project and you want to share, please do!  Be proud of your work!  Whether you’ve done this your whole life or just started yesterday, I want to see it.

Meanwhile, one thing I have been diving into are the tiny homes and camper trailers.  While the one camper build I want to attempt is more a bucket list than where I’ll live (or camp), the Vardo camper design is very appealing.  If you haven’t seen a Vardo design, peruse some designs on Pintrest (an account probably is required), or check out Wikipedia.

As usual, don’t take information you find on Wikipedia as “gospel truth” without doing some research of your own.  But what I’m looking at is the two wheeled design, possibly built on a Harbor Freight trailer.

The mostly wood construction appeals to me.  This will not be a five minute build, but things are definitely comprised of five minute sub-assemblies.  We’ll plan on making this next year’s project (to give me time to find a trailer and a vehicle capable of towing it).

But that means I need to get projects out this year for you to look at.  So here’s a current problem that I want to build a solution for: there is a stack of storage totes that needs attention. Some custom open face shelving, little more than a three sided cubby with drawer rails. Should be a quick build. (But you know me, right?)

See you soon!
